"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust apon them"
-Shakespere
Thursday November 11, 2010 was a momentous and triumphant day for my cousin Cristobal Escobar. Chris grew up in Burbank a nice respectable neighborhood but Chris's childhood life was anything but pleasant. To preserve the privacy of my cousin and his family I will only say that Cristobal's father wasn't a good father to his wife or kids,As a child Chris also suffered from ADHD making it difficult for him to concentrate and remain still. Chris would get into many fights until he decided to put all his energy in sports. Sports became Chris's safe haven away from problems and distractions at home. The stuggles that Chris surpassed has influenced the great and impeccable athlete and person he is today.
Chris is 16 years old, a junior at John Burroughs High School. At Burroughs Chris plays varsity soccer and football. The big day had arrived on Thursday November 11, 2010 it would be the day that Burroughs Football team would play against their city rival Burbank High for a position in the Championships. The first 3 quarters Burroughs was losing it wasn't until the 4rd quarter when a touch down tied both teams up. There was only 4.7 seconds left on the clock and that's when Chris's coach chose him to kick the winning field goal. Chris approached the field and in those 4.7 seconds he kicked the 21-yard field goal that won the game. Burroughs won Burbank 38-35. Chris made victory in Burbank's books. Some peope were born with talent, others get lucky, but there are those like that little boy with the rough childhood who triumphed through hard work and perserverence. Chris is proof that nothing in life is unattainable. I am proud to say I'm related to this inspiring guy, I love you Chris keep up the good work!
