Catfish

My sister is taking a cinema class at USC where she gets to watch movies before they go into theatres. After they watch the movie they meet either the actor, director, producer or some other important person and ask them questions. Since I was still on my long summer break she invited me to her 4 hour late class. Eager to experience an actual college class I agreed to go. I wasn't very much interested in watching a movie because lately movies have disappointed me in their lack of; creativity, originality, and meaning. I am a firm believer that every movie has its own a moral.
To my suprise we weren't watching an overrated, overadvertised, cliche movies. The film was called Catfish and it was a documentary. Now because I want you to watch the movie I vowed thatI would try my best not to spoil anything. However, I will tell you what I received from this unique documentary.
Quite frankly, Catfish in not like any other movie or documentary you've ever seen. It's best to know as little as possible about this movie so don't go researching the movie otherwise it defeats the purpose of watching it. Watch the movie and don't try to analyze it, just watch it with a clear mind and let the story envelop you and unfold in front of your eyes. The movie is funny, romantic, sad, suspenseful, and real. I actually got to meet the 3 young guys who were in the movie which was an unforgettable experience. They were were genuine, honest, down to earth guys who decided to document what happened to their friend that so often happens to people through these computer social networks
Catfish is one of those films that makes you think and reflect yourself as well as your own life. How much do you really know your "friends"? Watching this movie makes me value traditional human to human connections that technology has minimized for young adults and people in general.

As a final comment to wrap up this post I want to say that there was one quote in the movie that really moved me, that makes me think of the people who keep me going in life...instead of spoiling that quote for you I'll leave it up to you to watch the movie, and figure it out yourself.

8 days and a life long message

Footprints in the Sand Pictures, Images and Photos
"Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same"

Here's a short story that happened to me in the summer. It was the first trip to Cancun. It was our first trip with my sisters, my dad and I without my mom. My dad the frugal man that he is chose the most inexpensive package for our airplane tickets and hotel. My sisters and I filled with excitement didn't care; we were in paradise for goodness sake. We swallowed our words when we arrived at the 3 star hotel. First of all there was not air conditioning! All the guests were young smokers and our room was so small we felt suffocated, not to mention the annoying ring the elevator made throughout the night. We felt miserable and homesick. We would not survive here for 8 long days. The best part of our room was the view. For some reason the sunsets in Cancun looked so much more beautiful than the ones in LA.

Its funny how talking to a stranger can lead you to a 5 star hotel. Then buying a time share, then being able to spend your vacation in a 5 star all inclusive hotel, and free activities. We were thrilled to finally leave our stuffy lame hotel for a 5 star palace. Our vacation began to feel like paradise.

One of our activities included in our packages was 4 tickets to famous Chichen Itza (in my opinion in of the 7 wonders of the world). Mayan pyramids and geological artifacts amazed me. My two sisters only concerned with the heat. As I stood in the center of an old Mayan ball game arena a young Mayan native vender approached me. Instead of asking me to buy something he asked me if I lived in the U.S. He asked me if it was beautiful on "the other side", I said yes. Our conversation had to end because my group was leaving, I never caught his name. On our last day in Cancun as we boarded the plane I thought about that young guy I met. It made me incredibly depressed thinking about how people must ignore him, and that he may never get to visit the U.S.

I guess you can say I had a manifestation, at that moment I realized that life isn't about air conditioning or fancy hotels. It’s about how the whole world shares the stars and sunsets. Who knew that a stranger could move me so much. I am grateful to have met him. Its like the saying goes" Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same." I like to believe that the young stranger I met in ancient Mayan ruins feels the same

Aids Walk 10-17-10

Today me and a group of friends volunteered for the Aids Walk. We had to be in West Hollywood at 6:46 a.m. Once we signed in we recieved a free T-shirt and coffee with a bananna. We were assigned a statiom in which our job was to ensure the safety of the walkers.
As the 6 mile walk began people of all different cultures and ethnicities marched together as one. They were all united by a common issue, to fight against AIDS!
Being a monitor volunteer my goup and I encouraged the walkers and gave them high fives! Many grateful people even thanked us and hugged us. As crouds of people walked by I could feel my heart rising out of my chest. It was a beautiful, powerful moment for the walkers as well as myself.
As the end of the walk approached a younger man in a cane walked passed us. His name was Joe, an aids survivor who was placed on a wheel chair, cruthches and can now walk all on his own due to his strength and hope!
This event, and the amazing people have helped me realize that anything is possible! People can do great and spectacular things in the world! It also helped me discover that we are all united in some way or another. Together people will fight for a good cause. These are the small steps people can take to better this world!I am thankful for having take part in such an amazing event like this one! I will most definately be returning next year! I'll update this blog later from pictures of the event.

Alicia Keys - Unthinkable ft. Drake 2010 HD

Its one of my favorite videos that Drake produced.

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

Death, is just an overrated misconception. Everyone thinks its sad and horrible. I see death differently. I believe in rebirth and an after life, after all people need something to live for.
Everyone fears death. I don't fear death itself because its normal everybody goes through it, instead I fear more what I'll miss out in life once I'm gone.
I believe everyone has a purpose in life, and once they fufill their purpose they can leave earth to a better place. What if you could somehow know when you were going to die? What would you do? What would you say? Who would you want to spend it with?
My fantasy:
If it was my last day to live I would like to spend it in Cancun or Hawaii or a beautiful Paradise. I would be up at dawn to enjoy the sunrise with my family. I would eat the best most expensive meals on the menu. The day would be followed with an exhilerating adventure like bungee jumping. The day would be filled with smiles, laughter, and love. Then a picnic in a hot air balloon. After that, I would like to watch the sunset on the beautiful beach. Warmed by a nice bon fire and roasted marshmellows. I would look up at the stars and listen to the waves on the ocean. I would end the day with a short and brief farewell (because I dislike goodbyes). It would be a day to remember.
My reality:
I would wake up early to watch the sunrise on the roof. I would like to be in my city because this is where I grew up and lived. It contains all my memories and loved ones. Then, I would go to the donut shop down the street for breakfast with my mom and sisters because it was a tradition since kindergarden. I would go to the park and ride my blue bike and let the wind blow in my hair and face. We would have a picnic by the trees and playground. We would look at old pictures and reminisce. Laughing and crying at all the good times. At home we would watch the sunset and lay outside on the cool grass to watch the stars . I would listen to my sister sing, while my younger sister played the guitar. I would tell them how much I loved them. I would say goodbye because it would be the last goodbye I would ever say. It would be a simple day. Nothing fancy all I need is my loved ones. The day would be fairly plain and uncomplicated. That would be how I spend my last day on earth.

My favorite quote

"Everything you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it because nobody else will"-Ghandi
Ghandi is one of my favorite historic figures. He wanted peace...not the kind of peace you get from violence or war but through pure peacefulness. He inspires me. I hope to accomplish great things in my own life, regardless of how insignificant it may be. I would just like to make an impact in somebody else's life. Just the other day I was in the TJ Mexico area visiting my grandmother, and I met 5 beautful little girls. They were 12 years old and younger. These girls asked me to teach them how to write. The joy it brought them to spell their own names brought me emmense happiness. These girls are surrounded in poverty, dirt, and they live in shacks. These girls were even lucky to own just a new pair of shoes. It astounded me how happy thse girls were in their homes. They drew flowers, rain, and smiles. It made me truely value and ackowledge how fortunate I am. I think I would like to work with children I desire to help people and kids. I don't know exactly what I want to do with myself but it was nice doing a small thing like, teaching underpriviledged kids to write. I thank these girls for the valuable lesson they taught me. I plan to keep close relations with these girls and hopefully they to can do something small that will make an impact on someone else's world.
