Today me and a group of friends volunteered for the Aids Walk. We had to be in West Hollywood at 6:46 a.m. Once we signed in we recieved a free T-shirt and coffee with a bananna. We were assigned a statiom in which our job was to ensure the safety of the walkers.
As the 6 mile walk began people of all different cultures and ethnicities marched together as one. They were all united by a common issue, to fight against AIDS!
Being a monitor volunteer my goup and I encouraged the walkers and gave them high fives! Many grateful people even thanked us and hugged us. As crouds of people walked by I could feel my heart rising out of my chest. It was a beautiful, powerful moment for the walkers as well as myself.
As the end of the walk approached a younger man in a cane walked passed us. His name was Joe, an aids survivor who was placed on a wheel chair, cruthches and can now walk all on his own due to his strength and hope!
This event, and the amazing people have helped me realize that anything is possible! People can do great and spectacular things in the world! It also helped me discover that we are all united in some way or another. Together people will fight for a good cause. These are the small steps people can take to better this world!I am thankful for having take part in such an amazing event like this one! I will most definately be returning next year! I'll update this blog later from pictures of the event.
more pics coming soon.
Can't wait to see the pictures! AIDS Walk is a fantastic event, and I'm glad you were able to be a part of it. Nice improvement in avoiding comma splices and fragments. For next week, work on not overusing exclamation points--let your words speak for you--and double-checking your spelling to avoid "cruthches" when you mean "crutches" and "passed" when you mean "past."
